Min. ReadIntroducing three new 42mm adventure-ready Safari models, Ralph Lauren unveils an exciting addition to its renowned watch collection, nestled between the existing 45 and 39mm Safari variants.
Renowned American designer Ralph Lauren has curated an empire around his concept of relaxed elegance, skillfully crafted to evoke a distinct lifestyle. From the iconic Polo shirt of 1971, embodying preppy collegiate style synonymous with polo, to the Safari apparel collection of 1984, capturing the essence of adventure against rugged landscapes, Ralph Lauren's vision has transcended fashion into lifestyle. Translating the spirit of his Safari apparel line into men's watches, the initial Safari models debuted in 2013, featuring gunmetal steel cases in 39 and 45mm sizes, equipped with chronometer-certified movements. Returning in 2024, the latest Safari iteration presents a fresh 42mm case with three dial options, powered by an automatic Sellita COSC-certified chronometer movement.
Since incorporating watches into its repertoire in 2008, Ralph Lauren has seamlessly integrated timepieces into its vast lifestyle offerings. From the equestrian-inspired Stirrup and Polo collections to the Automotive line drawing inspiration from Ralph Lauren's vintage car collection, each collection reflects the brand's distinct aesthetic. The 867 Collection celebrates Art Deco design, while the Vintage 67 model pays homage to its heritage. While the designs exude American sensibility, all mechanical models house Swiss movements, ensuring precision and reliability.
Joining the esteemed lineup of 39 and 45mm Safari models, the new 42mm variants feature robust blackened steel cases, exuding a rugged allure. The 11.5mm thick case undergoes a blackening and shot-blasting process, resulting in a vintage gunmetal appearance. Retaining the signature screw motif, the bezel, case back, and crown are secured, ensuring water resistance up to 100m. The lug sides adorned with screws add to the watch's utilitarian charm.
Designed for outdoor pursuits, the khaki, black, and camo dials boast a matte, non-reflective finish achieved through snailing. The oversized luminescent Arabic numerals, with prominent numerals at 6 and 12 o'clock, enhance legibility. Depending on the dial hue, the numerals feature beige or black Super-LumiNova, complementing the sword-shaped hour and minute hands, while the central seconds hand stands out in vibrant orange.
Powering the new 42mm Safari models is the RL300-1 automatic movement (based on Sellita SW300-1), operating at 4Hz with a power reserve of approximately 50 hours and COSC chronometer certification.
Featuring an interchangeable strap system, the 42mm Safari watches offer versatility. Choose from a dark brown aged Bund calfskin strap, an olive-green weathered canvas strap, or a black aged steel 3-link bracelet. Models with calfskin or canvas straps retail for EUR 3,600, while the bracelet option is priced at EUR 4,050.
