Watches and Wonders 2025 has yet to begin, but Rolex has already unveiled its latest collection. The Rolex Land-Dweller emerges as an unexpected yet exciting release, marking a rare addition to the brand’s catalog. This elegant sports watch, heavily inspired by the late-1970s Oysterquartz models, presents a modernized integrated design. The most surprising aspect lies in its movement—built upon the foundation of the 1908 Perpetual, it introduces the newly patented Dynapulse escapement and a Syloxi hairspring. The Land-Dweller debuts as a full collection with 10 references, available in stainless steel, Everose gold, and platinum. Offered in both 40mm and 36mm case sizes, the collection includes variations with diamond-set bezels. The 40mm model, which takes center stage, features a 9.70mm-thick barrel-shaped case. A fluted bezel, crafted from white gold in the steel variant and matching metals for gold and platinum editions, sits atop the watch. Unlike the Datejust or Day-Date, this bezel appears more vertical. The case exhibits brushed surfaces with polished bevels, and a sapphire crystal caseback reveals the sophisticated movement. Water resistance is rated at 100 meters, ensured by a Twinlock crown.

The integrated bracelet plays a crucial role in the watch’s identity. Rolex has developed a new Flat Jubilee bracelet, preserving the five-piece link structure but refining its aesthetic. The center links are polished and slightly elevated, while the outer links display a technical satin finish. Ceramic inserts enhance durability, and the concealed folding Crownclasp maintains visual harmony. However, micro-adjustment functionality is absent.

The dial introduces an intricate honeycomb motif. Stainless steel and gold models feature a satin finish over a crisp white base, whereas the platinum edition boasts a sunray finish over an ice-blue dial. Large, open-center numerals at 6 and 9 take inspiration from Explorer and Air-King models, imparting a contemporary touch. Index hour markers incorporate luminescent material along their entire length. Distinctively straight hands and an angled flange with a precisely printed minute track complete the display.

Rolex continues its pursuit of horological advancement with the introduction of the Dynapulse escapement. This sequential distribution system, crafted from silicon, enhances energy efficiency by minimizing friction. A transmission wheel engages with two distribution wheels, activating an impulse rocker that drives the oscillator. This mechanism significantly reduces energy consumption compared to traditional Swiss lever escapements.

The balance staff is composed of high-tech ceramic, while the balance wheel utilizes an optimized brass alloy, both offering exceptional resistance to magnetic fields. The Syloxi hairspring, now with reshaped and thickened coils, improves rigidity and performance.

The Calibre 7135 operates at an impressive 5Hz frequency (36,000 beats per hour), ensuring heightened precision. Rolex’s refined movement architecture provides a 66-hour power reserve. Visible through the sapphire caseback, the movement showcases Geneva stripes and an openworked yellow gold rotor, aligning with the 1908’s refined aesthetics.
