Min. ReadPatek Philippe is reintroducing the Calatrava Pilot Travel Time in white gold, now featuring a lacquered ivory dial. This new Ref. 5524G-010 replaces the previous blue-dialed 5524G-001, which was quietly discontinued. Initially controversial upon its debut in 2015, this model has since earned its place among Patek enthusiasts.
The watch retains its robust 42mm white gold case and is powered by the self-winding caliber 26-330 S C FUS, delivering dual-time functionality with a skeletonized second hour hand for home time. A local time display is complemented by AM/PM indicators at 9 and 3 o’clock, while the date is positioned at 6 o’clock. Applied blackened white gold Arabic numerals and large sword-shaped hands ensure high legibility, with luminescent material closely matching the ivory dial.
Functionality remains the same, with screw-down pushers on the left side of the case allowing for quick local time adjustments while preventing accidental changes. The new khaki green composite strap with a fabric-like texture enhances the aviation-inspired look, secured by a white gold clevis prong buckle reminiscent of pilot harnesses.
This new reference joins the rose gold 5524R-001 with a brown dial, introduced in 2018, and officially replaces the original white gold 5524G-001. The 10th anniversary of the Calatrava Pilot Travel Time collection makes this update timely, yet the choice of an ivory lacquer dial is a bold design shift. Patek has experimented with khaki green before, but the monochromatic aesthetic of this dial adds a fresh perspective to the brand’s evolving design language.
Since the controversial launch of the first Calatrava Pilot Travel Time, Patek’s design direction has gradually shifted, as seen in releases like the Ref. 5172 (2019), Ref. 5326 (2022), and Ref. 5924 (2023). What was once a surprising departure from Patek’s traditional style is now a well-established part of its portfolio.
The ivory dial brings a slightly softer character to the watch compared to its blue predecessor, while the khaki green strap draws inspiration from popular past models such as the Ref. 5330G, Ref. 5164, and Ref. 5065. With its refined aesthetics and practical dual-time function, the new 5524G-010 ensures that the Calatrava Pilot Travel Time remains an essential part of Patek’s modern lineup.
