Min. ReadBulgari rewrites the book of ultra-thin watches. The Bulgari Octo Finissimo family pushes the boundaries of horology by the thinnest timepieces of luxury watchmaking.
Founded in 1884 by the Greek-born Sotirios Voulgaris, today the giant of perfume, clothing, accessories, jewelry, watchmaking, and even chain of hotels, Bulgari, has been operating under the LVMH group since 2011. Today, we will look at some significant models in the Octo series of the famous brand that steers luxury watchmaking.
Among the mutual features of all watches in the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Collection are octagonal case forms and ultra-thin movements. Although the three models we have here seemed very similar to each other, they offer different experiences to their users with the model specific-features they have when it comes to details.
All watches come with a 40mm octagonal case. Case thicknesses are 6.4mm in the stainless steel and 18K gold model, while the value is 5.15mm in the titanium model. The models feature sapphire crystals on both sides. The stainless steel and the 18K gold versions are water-resistant to 100 meters. The titanium version, on the other hand, is water-resistant to 30 meters.
The stainless steel and the 18K gold models sport matt-black dials, where the titanium version hosts a gray dial. The dials have baton indices as well as numeral markers at 12 and 6. Stainless steel and titanium models feature integrated bracelets with folding clasps, made of the same material as the case. The 18K rose gold case model has a black alligator strap and a gold folding buckle.
We came to the most significant detail of the Octo family, namely the movement part. Inside the models is the in-house Caliber BVL 138, measuring 36.6mm x 2.23mm. The 36-jewels, self-winding movement beats at a frequency of 3Hz (21600vph) and offers 60 hours of power reserve when fully wound. Thanks to this engineering-marvel movement, the timepieces set new records in ultra-thin watch categories. Caliber BVL 138 features a small-seconds indicator and fitted with a platinum micro-rotor. The craftsmanship of the movement features decorative details that comply with high watchmaking standards.
Bulgari Octo Finissimo has a strong image and solid feel on the wrist, regardless of the material preference. The wide, angular case reinforces the wrist presence factor, while the ultra-thin architecture offers the utmost comfort. In addition to these, the Octo series, which is a very original model with its octagonal design concept and brand-specific details, has features that can appeal not only to Bulgari fans but to all watch lovers.
