Min. ReadMontblanc introduced its Iced Sea Automatic Date collection in 2022, capturing attention with its sporty design and glacier-inspired dials reflecting the Mer de Glace from the Mont-Blanc Massif. Now, Montblanc enriches this collection by unveiling four new models in a smaller 38mm case size. Previously available in a 41mm diameter, this reduced size caters to both men and women seeking a more compact timepiece.
With the new 38mm case, Montblanc introduces two new glacier pattern dial colors: white and light blue. All Montblanc Iced Sea dials feature a glacier pattern that mirrors the color and texture of ice. This pattern is created using a special technique called gratté-boisé, providing the dial with genuine depth and luminosity. This meticulous process takes four times longer than standard dial creation, involving over 30 separate steps. The result captures the intricate network of interlocking ice crystals that have been frozen for millennia.
Surprisingly, this marks the first time a Montblanc Iced Sea model has been crafted in pure white. The light blue version also debuts a new hue in the collection, adorned with a sfumato effect. This smoky aesthetic stems from an Italian technique where tones and colors gradually merge, producing softened outlines and hazy forms.
Technological advancements are also present in these models. The Montblanc Iced Sea Automatic Date now features 0 Oxygen technology, benefiting explorers who require their timepieces to function in the harshest environments. Zero oxygen inside the case eliminates fogging, which can occur with drastic temperature changes, and prevents oxidation. Without oxygen, all components last longer and maintain precision over time. Each watch comes with a certificate verifying the successful implementation of this special, yet invisible, technology.
Montblanc’s 0 Oxygen technology will be integrated into all new Montblanc Iced Sea models from April 2025. Owners of previous Montblanc Iced Sea editions can request a 0 Oxygen upgrade by sending their watch directly to a Richemont center or returning it to a Montblanc boutique. In both cases, any necessary follow-up will be handled via a Richemont platform.
As with previous editions, these four new Montblanc Iced Sea Automatic Date models are certified according to the ISO 6425 diving watch standard. Their unidirectional rotating bezels match the color of the dial and display the dive time. The white versions are equipped with a bezel with white ceramic inserts, while the two-tone blue versions are crafted with anodized aluminum inserts. All dials feature white luminescent hands, indices and a dot at the 12 o’clock position of the bezel, and bear the Montblanc Iced Sea logo. The caseback features a 3D engraving depicting a diver and an iceberg. This engraving structures the metal to create matte and glossy surfaces, adding contrast and vibrancy to the image.
The watches are available with a stainless steel tapered bracelet or a matching rubber strap in a matching colour. Both are easily interchangeable and feature a fine-tuning system. The rubber straps have been redesigned with a 3D glacier pattern on the inside to enhance breathability and comfort on the wrist.
These Montblanc Iced Sea Automatic Date watches are powered by Montblanc’s MB 24.17 automatic movement, which has a 38-hour power reserve and displays hours, minutes, seconds and the date at three o’clock. For optimal performance in a sporty environment, each watch undergoes the Montblanc Laboratory Test to ensure shock, magnetic, temperature and water resistance (approximately 30 bar) and the security of its connections.
