Hamilton's rugged, military-inspired Khaki Field Mechanical watch now comes in new styles. Launched in 2018, this model quickly gained popularity due to its vintage design, durability, simplicity, and affordability. The original black/steel version has evolved into various colors and materials, featuring an updated movement and larger cases.
The Khaki Field Mechanical draws inspiration from the mid-20th-century Hamilton “Hacked” model. The "hacked" feature allowed the second hand to stop when the crown was pulled, aiding military synchronization. Although common in modern watches, the design inspiration remains rooted in WWII-era military watches, reflected in the case, proportions, and dial.
Originally in a 38mm steel case with a hand-wound ETA 2801 movement and a 42-hour power reserve, the collection was enhanced with a more powerful movement and new colors. The 2021 addition of a bronze case amplified its retro appeal. Its no-nonsense design and accessible price make it appealing, combining great design, proportions, and reliable mechanics.
For 2024, Hamilton introduces three new 38mm editions. At 9.5mm thick, this watch harks back to soldier's tool watches with a matte, blasted case. Despite its 50m water resistance, it remains robust. All models feature NATO straps in leather or fabric, a sapphire crystal protecting the dial, and a solid metal case back.
The dial, inspired by vintage military watches, has large Arabic numerals, a 13-24 hour scale, triangular luminous markers, and a well-designed handset. New additions include a matte blue dial with a blue strap and a revamped white dial with greenish Super-LumiNova and a black NATO strap. The bronze edition, previously only in black, now features a white dial, brown NATO leather strap, black-toned hands, and beige SLN.
All models are powered by the H-50 movement, developed by ETA for Hamilton. Based on the ETA 2801, it offers an 80-hour power reserve and a 3Hz frequency.
