The original Chrono-Matic, developed in collaboration with Buren, Heuer, Breitling, and Dubois-Depraz, was introduced in 1969 with the groundbreaking Calibre 11 movement. One of its key design features was the unique placement of the pushers on the left side of the case. This model, known for its striking design and technical advancements, laid the foundation for future Hamilton chronographs.

The Chrono-Matic 50 takes inspiration from the 1970s Chrono-Matic GMT Count-Down. While it omits the GMT complication, it preserves the countdown function, echoing the design language and spirit of its predecessor. With a robust 48.5mm stainless steel case and a 16.05mm thickness, the Chrono-Matic 50 is a striking presence on the wrist. The helmet-shaped case, a hallmark of the original, protects the pushers and ensures water resistance up to 100 meters.

The dial features a reverse panda design with a white sub-dial, blue background, and vibrant orange accents, capturing the energetic feel of the 1970s. A blue tachymeter scale sits on the flange, while the rotating countdown bezel adds a functional yet stylish touch. The hands, hour markers, and sub-dials are filled with luminescent material for visibility, with the central seconds hand in bright orange matching the countdown numerals.

The Hamilton Chrono-Matic 50 is powered by the H-31 movement, based on the Valjoux 7753 architecture. It boasts an extended power reserve of 60 hours, making it a reliable companion for extended use. The watch comes with a blue rally-style leather strap, featuring perforations that reveal orange lining, further enhancing its vintage racing appeal.
