Citizen Series 8 880 Mechanical GMT

Originally introduced 15 years ago and initially exclusive to the Japanese market, the Citizen Series 8 made its global debut in 2021 with the 870, 830, and 831 models. This lineup of contemporary, everyday sports watches features a trendy angular design and has since expanded to include exciting variations such as the diver-inspired Mechanical 890 and the functional yet stylish Mechanical GMT 880. While not as premium as Citizen's flagship "The Citizen" collection, the Series 8 holds its own in the mid-range category, offering excellent quality and competitive pricing. To commemorate its 100th anniversary, Citizen has released a bold limited-edition model that pushes the envelope with daring aesthetics, innovative materials, and vibrant colors.

The NB6036-52N retains the same distinctive case design as its predecessors, with a modern and angular silhouette featuring alternating brushed and polished finishes. The barrel-shaped case, complete with an integrated bracelet design, is now enhanced with alternating dark grey and blue coatings. Adding to its dynamic look, the bi-directional bezel features a black-and-blue 24-hour insert protected under a crystal surface. The case dimensions remain unchanged, measuring 41mm in diameter, 13.4mm in height, and approximately 47mm lug-to-lug. While the fixed central link slightly increases its length, the watch maintains a comfortable 100m water resistance and is fitted with a sapphire crystal for added durability.

One of the most striking updates is the dial, crafted from gradient blue mother-of-pearl, evoking the appearance of shimmering water. This unconventional choice adds a bold and unique character to the watch, especially for a men’s sports model. Complementing the dial are dark-coated hands and applied markers, all filled with luminescent material for enhanced visibility. The GMT-specific elements, such as the blue 24-hour hand and matching "GMT" text on the dial, complete the oceanic theme.

Under the hood, this limited edition is powered by Citizen's in-house caliber 9054, an automatic movement with a true GMT function—a rarity in this price segment. Operating at a frequency of 4Hz, the movement offers a 50-hour power reserve and an accuracy range of -10/+20 seconds per day. The bracelet mirrors the case's bold color scheme, with dark grey-coated main links and striking dark blue-coated mid-links, offering a cohesive and distinctive look.
