Tissot continues its impressive streak with the new 40mm Seastar 1000 Powermatic 80.
The Seastar name has been a staple in Tissot’s collection since the 1950s. However, its current design hails from 2018 when Tissot introduced a 43mm version with a blue dial. In 2022, Tissot added more color options and a quartz variant. Last year, a 40mm quartz version debuted in blue, black, and two-tone. This year, Tissot finally unveiled the 40mm mechanical Powermatic 80 version.
The new Seastar 1000 Powermatic 80 boasts a 40mm stainless steel case, excluding the crown guards, and measures 12.5mm thick (though measured at 12.8mm, likely due to the domed sapphire crystal). The 46mm lug-to-lug span makes it a compact dive watch. Its vertical brushed lugs, polished ridge, and brushed notch add to the refined look. The Oyster-style bracelet, with brushed outer links and polished center links, tapers from 20mm to 18mm at the clasp and features quick-release spring bars for easy strap changes.
Unlike the quartz version, the Powermatic 80 version shows significant upgrades in finishing. The dials, available in turquoise, dark gray, gold-tone, and blue (paired with a black PVD-coated case), feature a vertically brushed fumé effect. The dial design includes applied indices every five minutes, Super-LumiNova-coated indices and hands, and a framed date window at 6 o’clock with a black date wheel. The bezel insert is made of mineral crystal with a black background.
Powered by the Powermatic 80 movement, this automatic caliber operates at 21,600vph, has 23 jewels, and offers an 80-hour power reserve. The movement can be viewed through the sapphire case back. With a screw-down crown and crown guards, the Seastar 1000 Powermatic 80 is water-resistant up to 300 meters (1,000 feet).
